8 picks. Five won, one lost, two pushed. A good day, and an unusually instructive one — two of the eight landed exactly on their handicap and returned the stake, which is worth explaining properly because it happened twice in the same afternoon.

Hønefoss did the heavy lifting, and then some. 9-1 against Ullensaker/Kisa II. We were on twice — giving half a goal at 1.39 and giving a goal and a half at 1.90 — and by half an hour in neither was in any doubt. Nine goals is not a scoreline you plan for. Two selections on one match is the most this system will take, and it only happens when both lines qualify independently; here the match repaid both without breaking sweat.

The two pushes, and why they are not near misses. Rågsved beat Syrianska 2-1 and Charlotte Independence beat Greenville Triumph 1-0. Both were on a –1.00 handicap, meaning they needed to win by two. Both won by exactly one. That is a push: the stake comes back, nothing is won and nothing is lost.

People read a push as a bet that almost came off, and it is not. A –1.00 line landing on its exact number is the market and the model agreeing about where the game sat, and the game obliging. The 2.21 on Rågsved and the 2.10 on Charlotte were the two biggest prices on the card, and both came back whole. Frustrating to watch. Neutral to the bank.

Rågsved is the one to look at closely, because we were on it twice at different lines and the two behaved completely differently. The –1.00 pushed. The –0.25 won in full at 1.56. Same match, same team, same result — one returns the stake, the other pays.

That is the quarter line doing exactly what it exists for. A –0.25 handicap is two half-stakes: half at level, half at –0.5. Rågsved winning by one carries both halves, so it settles as a full win. It is a structurally different bet from the –1.00, not a softer version of it, and days like this are why the card carries both when both qualify.

The loss. KajHa drew 1-1 with Villan Pojat, giving half a goal. A draw kills a –0.5 outright — no push protection at that line — so it is a full unit down. At 1.22 it was the shortest price on the card, and short prices are exactly where a single loss costs the most relative to what it pays. Nothing went wrong in the selection; they simply did not win.

Almirante Brown won 2-1 on a +0.25 start it never needed, and Atlético Ottawa beat HFX Wanderers 2-1 with half a goal in hand.

Day close: +1.46u (5 won, 1 lost, 2 pushed from 8).

A note on what a day like this is worth. Five winners from eight sounds emphatic, and the bank moved less than a unit and a half. Look at what the winners returned: 0.90, 0.56, 0.39, 0.32, 0.29. Four of the five paid less than two thirds of a unit. The single loser cost a full one, and the two biggest prices on the card paid nothing at all.

That asymmetry is the whole character of this portfolio. We win a high proportion of our bets because the prices are short, and that means a good day is quiet and a bad day is loud. It also means a card can go five-and-one and add barely more than a unit, which is worth understanding before judging any single week by the shape of the graph.

I will not read too much into one afternoon. A good Saturday proves as little on its own as a bad Wednesday does, and the honest position is that eight bets tell you almost nothing either way. What settles it is a few hundred. The rules have not changed and are not going to on the strength of one result.

Same process today.
